We are excited to announce the second installment in our “Women Who Lead” talk-story series scheduled for Thursday, October 15 from 4:00pm-5:00pm via Zoom. Our panelists for this webinar are Cristina Moon, Marketing Director and Resident Priest at Daihonzan Chozen-Ji International Zen Dojo, and Phyllis Look, Owner, Certified Guide, and Trail Certification Consultant at Forest Bathing Hawai‘i, with moderator Colby Takeda, longtime JASH member and Senior Manager at Blue Zones Project - Hawaii. Please join us as we discuss the role of spirituality in trying times and how it can help guide us through difficult situations like the current COVID-19 pandemic.

There will also be a cameo appearance by ʻukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro, plus a live quiz show and prizes from local Kaimuki Businesses! Enjoy breathtaking views of Kaimuki’s gems and learn the best-kept secrets of the seven parks of Kaimuki. You'll hear from UH emeritus professors Tom Dinell and John Stinton; arborist Roxanne Adams and botanist Noweo Kai; community organizer Becky Gardner; and Winston Welch from The Outdoor Circle.

Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) is the oldest and largest foreign university in Japan. Founded in 1982, TUJ has developed into a nationally recognized institution offering an extensive range of educational programs. TUJ students receive the same credits, degrees and transcripts as students at Main Campus in Philadelphia. All classes at TUJ are taught in English and no Japanese proficiency is required to start.
In this undergraduate webinar, TUJ Admissions Counselors will be going over the application process, scholarships, and financial aid. A live Q&A will follow. A recording of the session will be available to those who register for this webinar in advance.

The Matsunaga Institute for Peace at the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s College of Social Sciences presents another installment in their “Beginning and End of the Bomb” talk-story series. Director G. K. Hunter shares the central theme of reconciliation featured in his documentary "Sakura & Pearls: Healing from World War II." This theme was inspired by his interview of Shigeaki Mori-san, a Hiroshima hibakusha (atomic bomb survivor) and renowned historian in Japan, who documented the 12 American POWs that perished from the atomic bomb in Hiroshima.

Just days after becoming the longest sitting Prime Minster in Japan’s history, Shinzo Abe unexpectedly announced his resignation on August 28, citing serious health issues. The next Prime Minister will face unprecedented domestic and foreign challenges ranging from Japan’s demographic crisis, the rise of China’s military and economic power, a global pandemic which is driving a world recession, and doubts about America’s longstanding security commitment to Japan. What will be the policy priorities of the next Prime Minister, Yoshihide Suga, and how will he differ from PM Abe in content and style of leadership? The United Japanese Society of Hawaii brings their annual Tsukimi no Kai (Full Moon Viewing) on YouTube. This culturally enriching event under the full moon will be their first virtual celebration and they hope you will join them. This year’s festivities feature a variety of entertainment, including a special Tamaguchi offering and blessing; haiku lesson; koto performance; doyo “children’s songs” performance; and dancing!
