The Japan-America Society of Hawaii and the ʻAkahiao Nature Institute are excited to co-host virtual workshops on the Edible World. On October 9, 2021, JASH and ANI held the first workshop in the series: Nature that Connects Us. The program team at ANI, including Julie Rogers, Jeff Fuchs, and Liana Macdonald-Kainoa, shared a virtual tour of their mala food garden. The workshop also included time to talk-story about ANI's Huʻehuʻe Ranch and Jeff's passion, tea. We had a great discussion in the chat! Recorded July 30, 2020 The Japan-America Society of Hawaii was fortunate to welcome linguist Dr. David Iannucci to speak in our Summer 2020 Talk-Story Series. Dr. Iannucci presented on the small volcanic island of Hachijojima and its severely endangered Hachijo language. He explained the history and current vitality of the Hachijo language, how it differs from Standard Japanese, and provided anecdotes of his experiences conducting fieldwork in communities on the island.
