Each year, JASH honors an individual, company, or organization with the Bridge Award for promoting understanding and friendship between Hawaii and Japan. In the spirit of building bridges of friendship, we are pleased to present the Sony Corporation with the Bridge Award for their exemplary leadership in fostering a relationship between Japan and the U.S. We are also honored to have Corbett Kalama, President of Friends of Hawaii Charities, as this year's keynote speaker.

Mr. Ernest M. Higa is Chairman, President & Chief Executive Officer of Higa Industries Co., Ltd., Chief Executive Officer of Wendy’s Japan K.K. and Chairman and Representative Director of First Kitchen Ltd. He received his MBA from Columbia University and his Bachelor of Science from the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce, University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Higa will talk about how he introduced various businesses from the U.S. to Japan, including Domino’s Pizza and Wendy’s return. He has a bi-cultural background, being a third generation Nikkei American from Hawaii, and having lived in Japan for many years. Mr. Higa has a unique insight as both an insider and outsider on the Japanese market.

Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) is the oldest and largest foreign university in Japan. Founded in 1982, TUJ has developed into a nationally recognized institution offering an extensive range of educational programs. TUJ students receive the same credits, degrees and transcripts as students at Main Campus in Philadelphia. All classes at TUJ are taught in English and no Japanese proficiency is required to start.
In this undergraduate webinar, TUJ Admissions Counselors will be going over the application process, scholarships, and financial aid. A live Q&A will follow. A recording of the session will be available to those who register for this webinar in advance.

The Matsunaga Institute for Peace at the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s College of Social Sciences presents another installment in their “Beginning and End of the Bomb” talk-story series. Director G. K. Hunter shares the central theme of reconciliation featured in his documentary "Sakura & Pearls: Healing from World War II." This theme was inspired by his interview of Shigeaki Mori-san, a Hiroshima hibakusha (atomic bomb survivor) and renowned historian in Japan, who documented the 12 American POWs that perished from the atomic bomb in Hiroshima.
