Weekly Update 3/4

Dear Members and Friends of JASH,

We are excited to share how we’ve reimagined our 18th Annual Japan Wizards Competition (JWC) to go virtual this month! Typically held at the end of February, the JWC is a quiz tournament where high school students compete in teams for the chance to win an educational trip to Japan. Teams are tested on their knowledge of various Japan-related topics such as art, culture and tradition, food, geography, history, Japan-Hawaii ties, literature, politics and government, sports, contemporary Japan, and of course, language. Competition day is supplemented with a variety of hands-on cultural activities and a college fair featuring representatives from Japanese universities.

As JWC cannot happen in person this year, teams will instead face off virtually with preliminary rounds taking place this weekend and the final competition occurring on Sunday, March 14th. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, this year’s teams are competing for educational trips to Japan that they may schedule once it is safe to travel.

Due to limitations on attendance, the competition and awards ceremony are closed to the public. Keep an eye out later this month for our announcement of the 2021 winners!

Best of luck to all our competing teams!
