Weekly Update 3/25
Dear Members and Friends of JASH, Looking back on this past year, we miss having live, in-person events with all of you, but we are so grateful for new technologies and innovations that have allowed us to continue engaging with our members via virtual platforms. Although we cannot physically gather, we’ve been able to connect with friends and family, old and new, in Hawaii, the U.S., and Japan through all our virtual programs. This week, we’d like to share a selection of some of our programs from this past year, which are available for viewing on our YouTube channel. Our most viewed video is Ray Tabata’s photo memorial, “In Observance of the 10th Anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake” that we released last month with over 1,100 views!
Despite the halt in travel, we at JASH continued to build bridges between Hawaii, the U.S., and Japan through programs like JUMP and Japan Currents. From economic recovery to social unrest, the past year has been full of challenges and calls for change. Join us as we continue nurturing mutual respect and understanding in our local community and beyond.
Over this past year, JASH has connected with various leaders and community members in Hawaii on a variety of topics including remembering the Great East Japan Earthquake; learning about Maui County’s Sister City Hachijojima; and two author talk-stories on Japanese-American history and mental health.
As part of our talk-story series, we invited women leaders to share their entrepreneurial journeys and discuss the difficulties, lessons learned, and how they’ve reinvented themselves through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our inaugural NexGen Natsumatsuri, reimagined Annual Gala, and annual New Year’s Reception all went virtual this past year! We can’t wait until we can hold these fantastic and exciting events in person again, but until then we’re so grateful that we can share the recordings and highlights from this year’s virtual productions with you.
