The Japan-America Society of Hawaii is shocked and saddened by the news of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s assassination.

With diplomacy as one of his many strengths, Mr. Abe did much to strengthen the friendship between the U.S. and Japan, as well as with many other nations. In his visit to Hawaii in 2016, Mr. Abe met with former President Barack Obama and visited Pearl Harbor, the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, the Ehime Maru Memorial, and other key locations commemorating our shared histories.

JASH joins the global community in sending our heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Abe and family and the people of Japan.

The world has lost a great leader.
