Dear Members and Friends of JASH, Due to the government Stay at Home orders, our office will be closed beginning today, August 27 to Thursday, September 10, 2020. JASH staff will be working remotely from home but may still be contacted via email. Let’s work together and do our part to fight COVID-19! Stay Home. Stay Safe. Stay Healthy.

Today, August 27th, is National Just Because Day……. Just Because Day has become a great way to spread random acts of kindness. Send a thoughtful card to a friend, just because. Give your grandparents a call, just because. Pick up the trash from your neighbor’s yard, just because.

Virtual Program 31st U.S. Japan Friendship Cup Online Tennis Event Tuesday, September 1, 2020 3:00pm HST Free

This year Japan Society of Northern California will be hosting an online gathering to celebrate 31 years of the US-Japan Friendship Cup. They are extremely excited to welcome Former Ambassador Shunji Yanai as their special guest. Ambassador Yanai, while serving as the Consul General to Japan in San Francisco, helped create the very first US-Japan Friendship Cup Tournament. At this event he’ll be discussing the history of this tournament and the importance the grassroots friendship between the U.S. and Japan. You will also be able to learn about the history of Yonex and tennis rackets, participate in a tennis trivia quiz, network, and more. Join storyteller Alton Takiyama-Chung, as he shares the stories of four ordinary men, who faced impossible situations, with extraordinary courage and determination, in WWII: Ben Kuroki, Frank Emi, Chiune Sugihara, and Solly Ganor. Virtual Program Womenomics Pioneer Kathy Matsui How to Nurture Female Employees Wednesday, September 7, 2020 2:00pm HST Free

Over 20 years ago, Ms. Matsui coined the phrase Womenomics when she began her research on how empowering women could bolster Japan’s rapidly aging society. Prime Minister Abe’s Third Arrow for economic revitalization included women’s empowerment initiatives including setting targets for women in supervisory positions in all fields.
