Roses in Japan By Marsha Yokomichi

Background Information JASH Vice President – Marsha Yokomichi also serves as the Vice President–External of the Honolulu Rose Society (HRS). She has been growing roses for over 20 years and is part of the voluntary core-group of HRS members who maintain the University of Hawaii’s Urban Garden Center (UGC) Rose Garden in Pearl City. Her love of roses as well as her passion for traveling has allowed her to see some of the most beautiful rose gardens in the world though her personal travels as well as her attendance at triennial World Rose Conventions.

Dear JASH Members, Hope you’re all doing well as we heed the call to stay at home and try to weather the brunt of the COVID-19 storm. While I long to be outside tending to roses at the UGC Rose Garden with my fellow HRS members, current guidelines prohibit us from doing so. Since we all can’t be outside right now, I thought I’d bring the beauty of roses to you via your computer monitor, tablet, or cell phone. I’ll tell you about a couple of unusual ways that I saw roses growing in Japan and then share photos of some of the most beautiful rose gardens that I have ever seen in any of my travels…and they are all in Japan.
